I was leading the team which was first to
complete GOI- WHO supported project on “Bio-medical waste management “ among the eleven medical colleges of
As
a part of this we collected lot of literature as well as participated &
presented our work at national & state level conferences & workshops.
We also disseminated lot of research work
in the subject at state level by holding training programmes
& workshops . I visited various
medical associations of
Many hospitals, Govt
& NGOs have taken advantage of our
knowledge. I am also appointed as member in expert committee formed by
Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Govt. of Gujarat.
Our team was assigned a project on behalf
of Health Forum ( A voluntary organisation ) , to
work on research project pertaining to
“hospital waste management” by Centre for Environment Education , Ahmedabad. It was supported by
USAID in 1996 – Well before the law was enforced in our country. Various forums
including Government of India , Centre for Environment Education ( Ahmedabad
& Delhi ) , BJ Medical College & Civil hospital Ahmedabad , Government
of Gujarat , Ahmedabad Municipal corporation etc. utilized our knowledge &
research work in the subject.
We also prepared an excellent software
for training as well as day to day management of hospital waste management.
Educational material like posters , booklets , training literature etc are
widely used in
We
also tried ideas in field of wormiculture of
organic waste , use of solar
energy for autoclaving of hospital waste , specially designed dust-bin for
non-touch technique , safe transport mechanism , use of bio-gas plant for food waste
, reduction of waste , segregation at production site etc. We also helped in
exposing the people involved in recycle of waste without sterilization.
To summarize, we can
conclude that my efforts
were instrumental in really changing the scenario of bio-medical waste
management not only in state of
